Five years before the events of the film, Dick Grayson—then known as Robin—was part of the original Teen Titans alongside Speedy, Kid Flash, Beast Boy, and Bumblebee. They rescued Starfire from captors sent by her evil older sister Blackfire. When Starfire could no longer return to Tamaran, the Titans offered her a home on Earth. Dick developed a strong interest in Starfire from their first meeting, a feeling that intensified when she kissed him to learn English. In the present, Dick has taken the name Nightwing and rejoins the Titans to stop Brother Blood, who plans to absorb the team's abilities using a machine he tested on Jericho. Nightwing learns about the conspiracy before Deathstroke ambushes him; outmatched, he escapes by faking his own death. He later intervenes during the power-draining ritual, rescuing the Titans and fighting Deathstroke alongside Robin.
